Dr. Y. V. Ramana Reddy

Professor of Computer Science and Director of the AI Lab at West Virginia University. He began his AI career at Carnegie-Mellon University’s Robotics Institute.

He founded the AI Lab at WVU, leading to successful startups acquired by Fortune 100 companies. His work spans AI, Medical Informatics, Telemedicine, and Distance Learning.

His research has been funded by major institutions including DARPA, NIH, and General Electric, totaling over $50 million.

With the rise of Transformer models and ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we live and work.

While AI is powerful, it remains a technology that can be used for both beneficial and harmful purposes.

This talk explores how to design "Responsible and Just AI" at the foundational level rather than relying only on external regulations.

The key question: can AI systems be inherently ethical by design?

President of the European Trustworthy AI Association, an non-profit association with the mission to empower engineers with state of the art, open source methodology and tools to build trustworthy AI systems.

He is bringing his experience in the technology industry, where he served with different roles in engineering, product management, open source program office, internal ventures, industrial research, and leadership.

Abstract

In his keynote, Nicolas will introduce the end to end Engineering methodology originating from the Confiance.ai program, and the open source toolkit that engineering teams can use throughout the lifecycle of high stake AI-based systems.

Nicolas will introduce the European Trustworthy AI Association and its international ecosystem, and give an overview of how they drive the maturation and the evolution of the portfolio, and how they support education, adoption and usage.
